Fasting and Prayer for Spiritual Breakthroughs

1 viewsJuly 12, 2026
Message Overview & Biblical Notes
You have been praying. But have you been fasting? Because some things only move when prayer meets fasting. And the Bible is very specific about what happens when they do. Isaiah 58:6 says fasting looses chains, unties yokes and sets the oppressed free. Matthew 17:21 says some things do not go out except by prayer and fasting. And every major turning point in Scripture, from Esther saving a nation to Daniel receiving prophetic understanding to the early church launching the greatest missionary movement in history, was preceded by fasting. This is not about religion. It is not about suffering for God. It is about accessing a dimension of spiritual power that reaches what ordinary prayer alone sometimes cannot. When you fast with specific focused prayer directed at a specific situation, something moves in the spiritual realm. Bonds are broken. Yokes are dismantled. Angels are dispatched. And breakthroughs arrive that had previously been held back. Jesus did not say if you fast. He said when you fast. He assumed his followers would. The question is not whether fasting works. The question is whether you will begin. Start with one meal. Use the time to pray specifically about the one thing that most needs a breakthrough. Name it. Bring it to God with faith and with the expectation that the God who honoured Esther's three days will honour yours.
