Light of the World Today
You know your position. You know your authority. Now it is time to begin demonstrating it. Daily. Deliberately. Without apology.
"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
Mark 16:17-18 NIV
Six parts of this series have built a comprehensive picture. Prayer is the channel through which God operates in the earth. Fasting intensifies and multiplies its power. Your prayers rise as golden bowls before the throne of heaven. Angels are dispatched in response to them. The enemy operates from fury not authority because he lost his position to you through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. You are seated with Christ above every ruler, authority and power. You carry authority over all the power of the enemy. The blood of Jesus is your legal covering. And regular fasting maintains the spiritual environment that keeps divine protection active around your life.
That is the most theologically rich position any human being has ever occupied. And yet the uncomfortable truth is that most believers who carry all of that revelation live in ways that suggest they believe very little of it. Not because they doubt God's power. But because they have never built the daily disciplines that keep the authority active, the covering maintained and the position occupied rather than merely believed.
Today we close the series with the most practical section of all. How you begin demonstrating the authority you carry. Immediately. In the specific situations of your specific life. Not when you feel ready. Not when circumstances improve. Now.
The Gap Between Position and Demonstration
Ephesians 3:10 in the NLT says God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. The church is designed to be a display. A demonstration. A visible, active, ongoing exhibition to the spiritual realm of the wisdom and the authority of God. Not a passive congregation waiting for heaven. An active, exercising, demonstrating community of believers who show both the natural and the spiritual world what the authority of Christ looks like when it is lived rather than merely believed.
The gap between knowing your position and demonstrating your authority is the gap that prayer and fasting are specifically designed to close. Because authority that is not exercised is functionally indistinguishable from authority that does not exist. The title deed means nothing if you never occupy the property. The legal right means nothing if you never enforce it. The power of the resurrection means nothing if you never live from it. Jesus did not give his disciples their authority as a theological comfort. He gave it to be used. Mark 16:17-18 says these signs will follow those who believe. Not those who know the theology. Those who believe it to the degree that they act on it. The signs follow the action, not the belief alone.
Five Ways to Begin Demonstrating Your Authority in Christ Today
1. Pray with authority, not just with request
There is a significant difference between a prayer that petitions and a prayer that commands. Both have their place. But the person who only ever petitions is not yet exercising the full range of their authority in Christ. Mark 11:23 in the NKJV says whoever says to this mountain be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Jesus is describing a prayer that addresses the obstacle directly, with authority, with faith and with the expectation that it will move. Begin including authoritative declarations in your daily prayer. Speak to the mountains in your situation. Command in the name of Jesus. Not as arrogance but as the legal exercise of authority that was purchased at Calvary and transferred to you at your new birth.
2. Cover your family daily with the blood of Jesus
Exodus 12 records God instructing Israel to apply the blood of the lamb to the doorposts of their homes so that the spirit of death would pass over them. That was a physical act with a spiritual effect. In the new covenant the blood of Jesus is the permanent and comprehensive covering that the blood of the Passover lamb foreshadowed. Declaring the blood of Jesus over your life, your marriage, your children and your home is not a superstitious ritual. It is the daily application of the most powerful legal protection in the universe to the people and the situations that matter most to you. Begin every morning by declaring the blood of Jesus over each person by name. It is one of the most practically effective acts of demonstrated authority available to you.
3. Fast with a specific assignment
Random fasting produces random results. Targeted fasting produces targeted breakthrough. Before your next fast, identify the specific spiritual assignment you are engaging. The specific bondage you are commanding to break. The specific protection you are activating over a particular area of your family. Write it down. Bring it to every hour of the fast as a focused declaration. And fast with the confidence of someone who knows that Isaiah 58:6 is not a suggestion. It is a promise. The bonds will be undone. The ropes will be torn. The yoke will be broken. The fast God has chosen always produces the results God has promised.
4. Speak the Word aloud over your circumstances
Romans 10:17 in the NKJV says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Faith is not just produced by reading. It is produced by hearing. And one of the most powerful things you can do is to become the person who speaks the Word of God aloud over your own specific situations so that your own ears hear it. Find the specific scriptures that address the specific circumstances you are facing. Speak them aloud every morning. Not as a repetitive formula but as a living declaration of a reality you are choosing to occupy. The enemy cannot withstand the sustained, specific, faith-filled declaration of the Word of God spoken from the position of someone who knows their authority. That is the weapon that Revelation 12:11 calls the word of their testimony.
5. Live above the storm by fixing your gaze above it
Colossians 3:2 in the NIV says set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. The person who lives above their storms is not the person who pretends the storm is not there. They are the person whose primary reference point is higher than the storm. Whose daily prayer and fasting maintains a perspective that is seated in heavenly places rather than overwhelmed by earthly pressures. When you begin your day by setting your mind on the reality of your position in Christ, by declaring the authority you carry and by exercising it in specific prayer, the storm does not disappear immediately but your relationship to it changes permanently. You are no longer beneath it looking up in fear. You are above it looking down in faith. And from that vantage point every storm is navigable because you can see the one who governs it.
So the Light of the World word for today and for the final close of this entire seven-part series is this. You are not a spectator in the spiritual war that is being fought around your life. You are a seated authority in heavenly places. You carry the name that every knee must bow to. You are covered by blood that silences every accusation. And you have access to the discipline of fasting and prayer that breaks every yoke and dismantles every structure of darkness that stands in your way. Take your seat. Use your name. Apply your blood. Fast with purpose. Speak the Word. Fix your gaze above. And live the life that makes the kingdom of darkness uncomfortable every single day you are on this earth.
Memory verse for today
"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus."
Ephesians 2:6 NIV
