Light of The World Today
Three tests Scripture gives, and one welcome it asks of us.
"And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:14 NIV
We have seen how generously God helps his people through his angels. This final part gives a needed word of care. Not every spiritual experience comes from God. Second Corinthians 11:14 says that the enemy can disguise himself as a messenger of light. So brightness, beauty or a powerful experience proves nothing. What matters is how we test it.
Three Tests Scripture Gives
1. Does it agree with Scripture?
Galatians 1:8 in the NIV says that even if an angel from heaven should preach a different gospel, let them be under God's curse. God's word is the standard, whatever the messenger looks like. In Acts 17:11 the Bereans examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Do the same with every message, dream or so called word you receive.
2. Does it honour Jesus?
First John 4:1 says do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits. Verses 2 and 3 explain that every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God. A true message will lift Jesus up, never push him aside.
3. Does it lead you to God or to itself?
In Revelation 22:8 and 9 John fell at an angel's feet, and the angel refused at once and said, worship God. A true messenger always directs attention to God. Be wary of anything that asks for your worship, demands secrecy or leaves you feeling proud.
"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."
Hebrews 13:2 NIV
The Welcome Scripture Asks of Us
Hebrews 13:2 looks back to Abraham in Genesis 18:1 to 8. Three visitors arrived, and Abraham hurried to offer water, rest and a meal. He did not know who they were. He simply showed kindness, and it turned out to be far more than he expected. The point is not to hunt for angels in every stranger. It is to be kind to everyone, because every person matters to God. Do so wisely and safely. Jesus said in Matthew 10:16 to be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
How to Apply This Today
Test before you trust. When you receive a message, a dream or an unusual impression, write it down and compare it with Scripture. Ask a mature believer for their view before you act on it.
Seek Jesus, not experiences. Do not chase visions or angelic encounters. Seek God and his word, and receive what he gives.
Show kindness to a stranger this week, such as a neighbour, a newcomer or someone in need, and do it wisely.
Conclusion
Across eight parts we have seen who angels are, how they protect, guide, strengthen and fight, what kind of life experiences their help most clearly, how to ask God for it and how to test every message. The heart of it is simple. God commands his angels, we look to him, and Jesus is always the centre. You are far less alone than you feel.
Memory Verse
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God."
