Isaiah 66:2–5
26 July 2026“For all these things My hand has made, so all these things came into being,” declares the Lord. “But to this one I will look: to him who is humble and contrite in spirit, and who trembles at My word.”
Isaiah 66:2 AMPIsaiah 66 begins with a reminder that resets the entire interior world of a person. God says He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Everything visible and invisible came into being because He willed it. Yet immediately after declaring His limitless power, He reveals something unexpected. The One who created galaxies does not fix His gaze on the impressive or the self assured. He looks toward the humble. He draws near to the contrite. He pays attention to the one who trembles at His word.It is one of the most quietly searching passages in Scripture because it shows us that God’s attention is not attracted by greatness but by surrender. Not by performance but by posture.Three Clear Lessons for Today1. Humility is the posture that God noticesHumility is not weakness. It is truthfulness. It is the recognition that we are not self sufficient and that wisdom begins when we acknowledge our need for God. The AMP describes humility as “a brokenness of spirit” that is not crushed but receptive.
An example of humility is found in King Josiah. When he heard the words of the Law read to him, he tore his clothes in grief and immediately sought God’s direction. He did not defend himself. He did not pretend. He responded with humility, and God said, “Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself, I have heard you” (2 Kings 22:19 AMP).Practical application:
Begin your day with a simple acknowledgement. “Lord, I need You today.”
Humility opens the door for God to guide the ordinary hours, not just the emergencies.
2. A contrite spirit is the willingness to be reshapedContrition is not shame. It is responsiveness. It is the heart that says, “If Your word confronts me, I will change.” The Message paraphrase captures this beautifully: “I welcome the person who is down and out, who reverently responds to what I say.”An example of contrition is David. After his failure with Bathsheba, he did not hide behind excuses. He said, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart You will not despise” (Psalm 51:17 AMP). His contrition did not crush him. It restored him.
Practical application:
When Scripture exposes an attitude or habit, respond immediately.
Small, honest adjustments create large spiritual shifts.
3. Trembling at God’s word means treating His voice as weighty:
To tremble at His word is not fearfulness. It is reverence. It is recognising that Scripture carries more authority than culture, emotion or convenience. The NLT says God honours “those who take His word seriously.” An.example is the early church in Acts. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching with seriousness and eagerness. Their reverence for God’s word shaped their decisions, their generosity and their courage.
Practical application:
Create 30 minutes minute or an hour window each day to meditate on the Word of God (The Holy Bible) and pray effectively day and night.
Let the weight of His voice settle before moving on.
What this Produces in Daily Life; Isaiah 66:5 reveals that God Himself becomes the defender of those who honour Him. He speaks for them. He stands with them. He vindicates them when others misunderstand or oppose them.This is not theoretical. It is deeply practical.
The humble person becomes steady.
The contrite person becomes teachable.
