Light of the World Today
"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise wins souls."
Proverbs 11:30 NIV
We have covered a great deal of ground in this series. You have seen how Jesus approached people. You have learned how to witness naturally in the workplace, in your neighbourhood and on the street. You know what to say when the door opens and how to handle it graciously when it does not. You understand what keeps the fire burning through rejection and why the Holy Spirit does the convincing so you do not have to. Today we close with the most important thing. Not more information. Action. A specific, practical and immediately usable personal evangelism plan that you can begin this week rather than filing away as good intentions you never quite get to.
Step One: Write Your Three-Minute Testimony Today
Before you do anything else in this action plan, sit down and write your testimony in three clear movements. What your life was like before Jesus. What happened when you received him. What is different now. Keep it to three minutes when spoken aloud. Simple language. No jargon. Honest detail. The kind of story you could tell someone in a car, over a coffee or in a five-minute conversation before a meeting starts. Practise saying it aloud until it feels natural rather than rehearsed. This is your primary witnessing tool and it needs to be ready before the moment arrives not assembled awkwardly in the moment itself.
Step Two: Write Three Names and Pray for Them Daily
Write down the names of three specific people in your life who do not yet know Jesus. A colleague. A neighbour. A family member. A friend. Someone you see regularly. Commit to praying for each of them by name every single day this week. Not a vague prayer for the lost in general. Specific names. Specific people. Specific requests. Ask God to open their hearts. Ask him to create a moment of natural conversation. Ask him to show you one practical act of genuine care you could extend to each of them this week that costs you something real. Luke 15:4 in the NLT says if a man has one hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Will he not leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? Three names is not too many. It is where the searching becomes specific enough to be effective.
"Will he not...go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?"
Luke 15:4 NLT
Step Three: Create One Genuine Point of Contact This Week
For each of the three people on your list, identify one natural and genuine act of connection this week. Not a religious invitation. A human one. A text asking how they are. A coffee. A meal. A knock on the door with something baked. Showing up to help with something you know they are struggling with. The act of connection is not the gospel presentation. It is the relational groundwork that makes the gospel presentation natural when the moment eventually comes. Galatians 6:10 in the NLT says whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone, especially to those in the family of faith. The opportunity to do good always precedes the opportunity to speak the good news. Create the opportunity this week.
Step Four: Be Ready to Pray With Someone This Week
When a conversation goes deep enough and the person is ready, do not end it with a book recommendation or a church invitation and then leave the decision entirely to them in private. Lead them in a prayer right there. Keep it simple. Something like this. Father, I come to you today and I acknowledge that I need you. I believe that Jesus died for me and rose again. I receive him now as my Lord and my Saviour. Forgive my sins and come into my life. Make me new. In Jesus name, Amen. That is it. Romans 10:13 in the NLT says everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Calling on his name out loud in a simple prayer is the specific act of faith that changes the eternal destination of a human being. Do not underestimate the prayer because of its simplicity. It is the most significant thing any human being can do.
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Romans 10:13 NLT
Step Five: Follow Up and Stay Connected
Winning a soul is the beginning of a relationship, not the end of one. The person who has just prayed for the first time in their life needs the same thing every new believer needs. Someone to walk with them. Someone to answer the questions that will arrive in the days after the prayer. Someone to invite them into a community of genuine believers. Matthew 28:19-20 in the NLT records the Great Commission as go and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. Making disciples is not a one-moment activity. It is the sustained, patient and genuinely caring process of walking alongside a new believer until the faith that was seeded in a single prayer begins to grow roots of its own. Stay connected. Check in. Invite them to a church service or a small group. Pray with them again. Be the person who helps them take the next step after the first one.
Conclusion
Six parts. One subject fully explored. Soul winning is not a programme for the specially gifted. It is the natural overflow of a life that has genuinely been with Jesus and that cannot stay quiet about what it found there. Learn from the Master. Witness with your life before your words. Know what to say when the door opens. Keep going through rejection. Let the Holy Spirit do the convincing. And use this action plan to begin today. Daniel 12:3 says those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars for ever. That is the most compelling reason available to begin this week and to never stop.
