SOUL WINNING V2

Light of the World Today

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"

Romans 10:14 NIV

Part 2 showed you how your life creates the question. Today is about what happens when someone asks it. A colleague pulls you aside after a difficult week and says there is something different about you, what is it? A friend calls late at night and says honestly I do not know what I believe any more. A neighbour who watched you walk through loss with unexplainable peace asks how you stayed so calm. These are the moments that soul winning is ultimately building toward. And most Christians freeze in exactly that moment. Not because they do not love Jesus. Because nobody ever showed them what to actually say when the door opens this wide.

Start with Your Story, Not a Sermon

The moment someone says they want to know more, the temptation is to launch into everything you know about the gospel. Resist it. Begin with what you know from personal experience rather than what you know from theology. Revelation 12:11 in the NKJV says they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Your testimony is a weapon. It is also the most natural and the most accessible entry point into the gospel for someone who is not yet a believer.

Keep it to three simple movements. What your life was like before you knew Jesus. What happened when you received him. And what is different now. Do not make it dramatic if it was not dramatic. Do not embellish. Simply tell the truth of your own experience plainly and honestly. The apostle Paul told his testimony in Acts 22 and Acts 26, both times in very different settings, with the same three-part structure. Before. The encounter. After. It is one of the most consistently effective and the most reproducible witnessing frameworks available to any believer regardless of their level of biblical knowledge.

"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony."

Revelation 12:11 NKJV

Explain the Gospel Simply and Without Jargon

Once your story has opened the door, they will often ask how. How do I get what you have? That is the moment to share the gospel clearly. And clearly does not mean thoroughly. It means simply. The greatest enemy of evangelism is not resistance. It is complexity. The person in front of you does not need a theology lecture. They need four simple truths stated plainly.

First, every person has a gap between who they are and who they were designed to be. Romans 3:23 in the NLT says all have sinned and fall short of God's glorious standard. That is not an accusation. It is a diagnosis that every human being already knows is true about themselves even if they have never had a word for it.

Second, God did not wait for us to fix the gap before he acted. Romans 5:8 in the MSG says Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He did not wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready.

Third, receiving Jesus closes the gap. John 1:12 in the NLT says to all who believed him and accepted him he gave the right to become children of God.

Fourth, it begins with a simple and honest prayer. A decision. Not a feeling. A choice to receive what has already been made available. And you can lead them in that prayer right there and then. Kindly. Simply. Without pressure.

"To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God."

John 1:12 NLT

What to Do When They Are Not Ready Yet

Not every conversation ends with a prayer. Some people need more time. More conversations. More evidence from your life. And that is completely fine. Your role is not to close every conversation with a decision. Your role is to sow faithfully and trust God with the harvest. 1 Corinthians 3:6 in the NLT says I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. You are responsible for the planting and the watering. God is responsible for the growing.

When someone is not ready, do not push. Do not argue. Do not make them feel like a failed project. Simply say something like I am glad we talked about this. Whenever you want to talk more I am always here. That single sentence, said warmly and without disappointment, often does more for the long-term witness than any amount of theological persuasion. It says I am genuinely interested in you. Not just in the outcome of this conversation. And that quality of genuine, patient, pressure-free care is the environment in which most people eventually say yes to Jesus.

Conclusion

When someone wants to know more, begin with your story. Share the gospel simply. Lead them to a prayer if they are ready. And if they are not, stay warm, stay interested and trust God with the growth. Part 4 closes the series with the most important thing that sustains a lifetime of soul winning. The fire that keeps you going long after the initial enthusiasm has been tested by rejection, indifference and the ordinary demands of a busy life.

A Prayer for Today

Father, give me the clarity and the courage to tell my story simply and honestly when the door opens. Let me lead with what you did for me before I explain what you can do for them. Give me the four simple truths clearly when the moment comes to share the gospel. And when someone is not yet ready, give me the patience and the warmth to remain genuinely interested in them rather than disappointed in the outcome. I plant and I water. You give the growth. I trust you with that completely. In Jesus name, Amen.

— Amen

Reflection

  • 1Could you tell your testimony clearly and simply in three minutes right now? Before. Encounter. After. If the honest answer is that it would come out muddled, this week is the time to practise it. Write it down. Say it out loud. Because the most powerful witnessing tool you carry is the story of what Jesus did specifically in your life. And it deserves to be told clearly. "They overcame him...by the word of their testimony."
