Light of the World Today
Part 1 gave you the foundation and the five steps. Part 2 is the most personal and the most practical instalment of all. It deals honestly with what deliverance feels like from the inside, why some people feel stuck even after they have prayed and what it actually takes to walk free and stay free in the ordinary days of a real life.

Let us be honest about something before we go any further. Most of the teaching on deliverance that people encounter focuses on what happens in the dramatic moment. The prayer. The declaration. The confrontation with darkness. And while all of that matters enormously, the question that most people are actually sitting with is not what happens in the dramatic moment. It is what happens on the Wednesday morning three weeks later when the same pattern of thought arrives again. The same temptation. The same fear. The same old voice saying nothing has really changed. That is the question nobody is addressing directly. And that is what Part 2 of this devotion is entirely about.
John 8:36 says if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed. That word indeed in the Greek is ontos. It means really, genuinely, truly. Not temporarily. Not conditionally. Not in a partial and management-required sense. Really free. The freedom Jesus provides is not a feeling that comes and goes with your spiritual temperature. It is a legal and spiritual reality that is as permanent as the cross that produced it. The problem is not the quality of the freedom. The problem is that most people do not know how to occupy it consistently. And knowing how to occupy your freedom is as important as receiving it.
Why Some People Feel Stuck Even After They Have Prayed
This is a genuinely pastoral question and it deserves a genuinely honest answer. There are people reading this right now who have prayed for deliverance sincerely and repeatedly and who still feel the weight of something they cannot fully shake. They are not imagining it. They are not failing spiritually. And they are certainly not beyond what God can do. But there are several specific reasons why the experience of freedom can feel elusive even when the legal provision of it is fully established at Calvary.
The first reason is that not all the doors have been closed. A person can pray for deliverance from a specific bondage and experience genuine relief while still carrying objects, maintaining relationships or continuing digital habits that are functioning as ongoing access points. It is like asking someone to turn the light off while they are still holding the switch down. The prayer was genuine. But the access point was not removed. And darkness will always use available access points regardless of what has been prayed over them.
The second reason is that the mind has not yet been renewed in the area of the deliverance. Romans 12:2 in the NLT says do not copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. The deliverance addresses the spiritual root. The renewing of the mind addresses the mental landscape that grew around that root across the years it was there. Both are required. A person can be genuinely free from a spiritual bondage while still carrying the thought patterns, the emotional responses and the mental habits that the bondage formed over time. Those thought patterns do not disappear automatically when the spiritual root is removed. They are renewed deliberately through the consistent intake of the Word of God applied specifically to the area of the deliverance.

The third reason is isolation. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 in the NIV says two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. The person who is trying to walk out of darkness alone, without a prayer partner, without a trusted spiritual friend, without someone who knows the specific situation and is standing with them in it, is carrying a weight that was not designed to be carried alone. Darkness operates most effectively in isolation and secrecy. Community and honest relationship are some of the most practically effective weapons against it.
A Biblical Example: Peter After His Denial
Peter is one of the most humanly relatable figures in the entire New Testament precisely because his failures are as documented as his victories. Luke 22:31-32 in the NIV records Jesus saying to him Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers. Jesus knew before it happened that Peter would deny him. He knew that Satan had specifically requested the opportunity to sift Peter. And he did not respond to that information by removing Peter from the situation. He prayed for him. He spoke the outcome over him before the failure arrived. And he gave him an assignment for the other side of it. When you have turned back. Not if. When.
Peter denied Jesus three times. Then the rooster crowed and Luke 22:61 says the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter went outside and wept bitterly. That moment of weeping is not the end of Peter's story. It is the turning point of it. Because the Peter who wept that night was the Peter who was eventually filled with the Holy Spirit, who preached on the day of Pentecost and who saw three thousand people come to faith. John 21 records Jesus meeting Peter on the beach after the resurrection and asking him three times do you love me? Once for each denial. Not as a punishment. As a restoration. He was not rubbing the failure in. He was specifically rebuilding what the failure had broken. And the Peter who emerged from that restoration was the Peter whose shadow healed people in Acts 5. The darkness that Satan used to sift Peter became the testimony that equipped Peter to strengthen everyone else who would ever be sifted in the same way.

What Peter's story shows us is that the process of deliverance and restoration is rarely a single clean moment. It is a journey. And the Jesus who prays for you before the failure arrives and who meets you on the beach after it is the same Jesus who is praying for you right now in whatever Wednesday you are in. Hebrews 7:25 in the NKJV says he always lives to make intercession for them. Always. Not when you have your life together enough to deserve the intercession. Always. Jesus is praying for your freedom right now. And that single truth is more than enough reason to believe that the freedom that John 8:36 describes is genuinely available to you, whatever your history looks like and however many times the same battle has been fought.
How to Deliver Yourself: Seven Daily Practices That Sustain Freedom
1. Begin every morning by declaring who you are in Christ before the day sets its own narrative
2 Corinthians 5:17 in the NKJV says if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new. Speak that over yourself before you check your phone. Not as positive thinking. As the declaration of a legal and spiritual reality that is true regardless of how you feel this morning. The person who begins the day by declaring their identity in Christ is the person who is least likely to live beneath it by lunchtime.
2. Apply the blood of Jesus specifically over your life, your family and your home every day
Just as the Israelites applied the blood of the Passover lamb to their doorposts in Exodus 12 and the spirit of death passed over every house where the blood was applied, the believer who deliberately and specifically declares the blood of Jesus over every person in their household and every space of their home is maintaining the spiritual covering that the blood provides. This is not superstition. It is the daily, specific application of what Revelation 12:11 calls the most effective weapon available to a believer. Do it by name. Do it for each person. Do it for each room. And do it every morning before the day begins.
3. Saturate your mind with the Word of God in the specific area of the battle
Psalm 119:11 in the NIV says I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. The Word of God stored in the heart is not passive decoration. It is active spiritual resource that speaks into the specific moment of temptation with a precision and a force that no human willpower can replicate. Find the specific scriptures that speak directly to the specific area of your battle. Write them down. Read them aloud daily. Memorise the most directly applicable ones. And when the familiar thought arrives on the Wednesday morning three weeks after the deliverance prayer, you will have something in the heart already prepared to answer it with authority rather than trying to remember what you believe about it under pressure.
4. Worship before you feel like it and especially when you do not
Acts 16:25-26 records Paul and Silas praying and singing hymns to God at midnight in the prison, in chains, with backs that had just been beaten. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, the prison doors flew open and everyone's chains fell loose. The worship did not begin after the chains came off. It began while they were still on. Genuine worship in the middle of a spiritual battle is one of the most disorienting things you can do to the powers of darkness because it asserts the supremacy of God over a situation that looks, from a natural perspective, as though darkness has the upper hand. Worship establishes atmosphere. And the atmosphere of genuine praise is one that darkness finds extraordinarily difficult to inhabit.

5. Pray in the Spirit regularly to build your spiritual capacity
Jude verse 20 in the NIV says build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Praying in the Spirit is one of the most practically effective and most consistently underused spiritual practices available for building and maintaining the level of spiritual strength that walking in sustained freedom requires. 1 Corinthians 14:4 in the NIV says anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves. The word edifies means to build up, to strengthen, to increase the capacity of. The person who prays in the Spirit regularly is building their spiritual capacity in a way that their natural language cannot fully reach. They are being built up from the inside in the specific areas where darkness has previously found them most vulnerable.
6. Tell someone who will pray with you and hold you accountable
James 5:16 in the NIV says therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. This verse connects the confession of the specific thing to the healing of the person confessing it. It does not say confess your sins generally to God and feel better. It says confess to each other. The exposure of what has been hidden in secrecy to a trusted, praying, genuinely Spirit-filled person removes the environment in which darkness most effectively operates. Find that person. Give them the real version of the battle you are in. And let their prayer and their accountability be a consistent weapon in the freedom you are walking out.
7. Celebrate every evidence of progress and refuse to let setbacks redefine you
Peter wept bitterly after his denial. And then he got up. He went back to fishing briefly because he did not know what else to do. And Jesus came to where he was, met him exactly there and restored him. The setback did not redefine Peter. The restoration did. And the same is true of you. When the Wednesday morning arrives and the familiar thought comes back, the response is not despair and the conclusion is not that nothing has changed. The response is the same response Peter was given the grace to make. Turn back. Return to Jesus. Declare the blood. Apply the Word. Worship before you feel like it. And start again with the settled confidence that the one who prayed for Peter before his failure is the same one who has already prayed for yours. And who is right now, this morning, making intercession for your freedom.
So the Light of the World word for today and for the close of this two-part series is this. You are not too far gone. You are not too familiar a case for God. You are not the person for whom the cross did not quite reach far enough. Peter denied Jesus three times and ended up healing people with his shadow. The man in the tombs ended up telling ten cities what Jesus did for him. The freedom that John 8:36 describes is real. It is yours. And Jesus is praying for it right now. Declare your identity. Apply the blood. Renew your mind with the Word. Worship before the chains come off. Pray in the Spirit. Tell someone. And when the Wednesday morning arrives, turn back exactly as Peter did. The one who met him on the beach is the same one who will meet you there. He has never stopped interceding for your freedom.
