Light of the World Today
"So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."
Hebrews 10:35-36 NIV
Nobody talks enough about the in-between. The season after the promise arrives and before the fulfilment is visible. That gap between what God said and what you can currently see is one of the most spiritually demanding environments a person can occupy. It is where most people either grow the deepest roots of their faith or quietly give up and call it maturity. Today is for the person in that gap right now. The one who knows what was ordained, has taken the first steps and is now in the season where the visible evidence is taking longer than expected to arrive.
Do Not Throw Away Your Confidence
Hebrews 10:35 says do not throw away your confidence. That phrasing is deliberate and important. Confidence in God's purpose for your life is not thrown away in one dramatic moment of rejection or crisis. It is thrown away gradually. One disappointing outcome at a time. One unanswered prayer at a time. One comparison with someone who seems to be moving faster at a time. Until the person who once spoke with genuine faith about what God had called them to is now introducing the same calling with qualifications and apologies and the half-hearted language of someone who no longer fully believes what they are saying.
The antidote is not trying harder to feel confident. It is returning consistently to what God actually said. Romans 4:20-21 in the NLT describes Abraham saying he did not waver in unbelief regarding the promise of God but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Abraham was fully persuaded. Not because the circumstances were confirming the promise. They were doing the opposite. At one hundred years old with a barren wife there was nothing visible to be confident about. But he remained fully persuaded because the persuasion was based on the character of the one who promised rather than the appearance of the circumstances that surrounded it. Your confidence in your ordained purpose must be grounded in the same place. Not in what you can currently see. In the character of the God who spoke it.
"He was fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised."
Romans 4:21 NIV
Use the Waiting Season to Grow, Not Just to Endure
The waiting season between promise and fulfilment is not empty time. Joseph spent thirteen years in a pit and a prison before he stood before Pharaoh. Moses spent forty years in the desert before he stood before the burning bush. David was anointed king at seventeen and did not take the throne until he was thirty. Every one of those waiting seasons was doing something in the person that the immediate fulfilment of the promise could not have produced. It was building the character, the depth, the wisdom and the specific quality of preparation that the assignment ahead would require.
Isaiah 40:31 in the NKJV says those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. The Hebrew word for wait there is qavah. It means to twist together, to intertwine, to bind in a cord. Waiting on God in the in-between season is not passive resignation. It is the active, daily, intentional process of twisting yourself more tightly together with the God who holds the promise. The person who waits that way does not emerge from the season weakened. They emerge from it with a quality of strength, resilience and depth of character that makes them more capable of carrying the purpose than they would have been if it had arrived on their original timeline.
"Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles."
Isaiah 40:31 NKJV
Conclusion
The in-between is not wasted time. It is formation time. Joseph, Moses and David all spent years in the gap between the promise and its fulfilment. And every one of them emerged from the waiting carrying exactly the depth, the character and the preparation that the assignment ahead required. Do not throw away your confidence. Use the wait. And trust the God whose character has never changed to bring what he promised at exactly the right moment. Part 8 closes the series with the most important question of all. How do you finish well?
