Part 1 gave you three daily practices for building the relationship with Jesus. Meditating on the Word. Praying always and listening. Worshipping him with genuine praise. Part 2 completes the picture with three more practices that are just as practical and just as powerful. And together these six habits form the daily rhythm of a person who is genuinely, consistently and joyfully growing in their relationship with Jesus.
Three More Ways to Build the Relationship
Give thanks in everything, not just the good days
1 Thessalonians 5:18 in the NLT says be thankful in all circumstances for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. Thanksgiving is one of the most powerful and the most practically underused relationship builders available. When you thank God specifically, not generally, but for the specific things he has done in your specific life this week, something happens. Your attention shifts from what is not yet resolved to what has already been provided. Your faith rises because you are rehearsing his faithfulness rather than rehearsing your problems. And your heart draws closer to him because gratitude is always the posture of someone who knows they have received something they did not produce on their own. Make thanksgiving specific. Write it down. Name it out loud. And do it before you bring him your requests.
Demonstrate obedience and listen to what he says
John 14:21 in the NIV says whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father and I too will love them and show myself to them. Obedience is the specific condition Jesus names for a deeper showing of himself. This is not a threat. It is an invitation. The person who does what Jesus says discovers progressively more of who he is. And the person who hears what he says but does not do it gradually finds that the relationship feels distant and the voice feels quieter. Obedience keeps the relationship growing. It is not the opposite of grace. It is the evidence of love. Ask Jesus today if there is a specific instruction he has already given you that you have not yet fully obeyed. And take the next step toward obeying it today rather than next week.
Declare with your mouth what you believe in your heart
Romans 10:9-10 in the NKJV says if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The relationship with Jesus is built not only in the quiet interior of the heart. It is expressed and strengthened through the mouth. What you declare out loud over your life, your day and your circumstances is actively shaping the quality of your faith. Proverbs 18:21 in the NKJV says death and life are in the power of the tongue. Begin each morning by declaring what you believe. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am loved. I am called. God's plans for me are good. The Word of God is alive in me today. These are not empty words. They are the active alignment of your mouth with what heaven has already declared over your life. Speak them. And mean them.

The six daily habits of building the relationship with Jesus
Meditate on his Word. Pray always and listen. Worship before the breakthrough. Give thanks specifically. Obey what he says. Declare what you believe. These six habits, practised consistently in the ordinary mornings of your ordinary life, are what a growing relationship with Jesus looks like in the real world. Not dramatic. Not complicated. Just daily. Just honest. Just consistent.
Building a relationship with Jesus is not something reserved for a special category of Christian. It is the daily pursuit of every person who has received him and who has decided that knowing him is genuinely the most important thing available to a human life. Six habits. Every day. In the ordinary moments. That is it. And the person who practises them consistently will find, as Paul found, as David found, as Daniel found, that the relationship becomes the most stable, the most fruitful and the most genuinely joyful foundation their life has ever been built on.
