Light of The World Today

Part 1 established the six daily foundations. Prayer three times a day. Meditating on the Word. Living holy. Being honest. Obeying God. Walking in love. These are the roots. Part 2 builds on them with two next steps that most believers overlook entirely. Learning to recognise the voice of Jesus in the ordinary moments of the day. And serving other people as a genuine act of love for him rather than as a religious performance for an audience.
Learning to Recognise His Voice
John 10:27 says my sheep listen to my voice. Not my most spiritual sheep. Not the ones who have been Christians the longest. My sheep. Every person who belongs to Jesus has the capacity to hear him. The question is not whether he speaks. The question is whether we are moving slowly enough and quietly enough to hear what he is saying.
He speaks through the Word most consistently. He speaks through the settled peace or the quiet unease that rises when a decision is in front of you. He speaks through the specific thought that arrives during prayer that is wiser and gentler than anything your own mind would have produced independently. 1 Kings 19:12 in the NKJV says after the fire came a still small voice. Not loud. Not dramatic. Small. Learning to recognise that voice requires the same thing that recognising any voice requires. Enough time spent together that it becomes familiar. Three times of daily prayer as Daniel practised is not religious legalism. It is the repeated, consistent exposure to the presence of God that makes his voice increasingly recognisable above all the other noise competing for your attention across the day.

Serving Others as Worship, Not Performance
Matthew 25:40 in the NLT records Jesus saying when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me. That single sentence reframes every act of service available to a human being. When you help a colleague who is struggling, you are helping Jesus. When you give to someone who cannot repay you, you are giving to Jesus. When you show genuine kindness to the person who is easy to overlook, you are showing kindness to Jesus.
The relationship with Jesus deepens not only in the private prayer room but in the specific moments where you bring his character into your ordinary interactions with people. You become more like someone the more you do what they do. And Jesus came not to be served but to serve. Mark 10:45 NIV. Every time you choose to serve genuinely, something of his character is formed more deeply in you. And something of the relationship grows in the serving that the private prayer time alone cannot produce in the same way.
