Anchore Scripture
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5 6
Have you ever stood on a coastline when the fog rolls in so thick you cannot see the hand in front of your face? Life often feels like that. We stand at crossroads career changes, family crises, or health scares and we are bombarded by "What ifs." What if I make the wrong choice? What if the worst case scenario happens? What if God does not show up?
Anxiety is like that fog; it does not actually change the landscape, but it hides the path, making us feel lost in a place we once knew. We try to lean on our own understanding, squinting into the grayness, trying to calculate every possible outcome. But the harder we squint, the more tired we become.
The Gospel does not promise that the fog will always lift instantly. Instead, it promises a Lightkeeper who knows the terrain perfectly. Jesus does not give peace as the world gives which is usually based on having all the answers. He gives a peace that exists despite the questions. When we stop trying to master the future and start trusting the Master of the moment, the "What ifs" lose their power. Your path is not made straight by your perfect planning; it is made straight by His sovereign hand.
Key Takeaways
Peace is a Person, Not a Circumstance: Biblical peace is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of Christ in the midst of it.
Limited Vision vs. Unlimited Grace: We only see the next step, but God sees the destination. Our limited understanding is no match for His perfect wisdom.
The Anchor Holds: Even when you cannot see the shore, the anchor of God’s Word is fixed in the bedrock of His character.
Lesson Learned
The biggest obstacle to peace is often our desire for control. We think that if we can predict the future, we can protect ourselves. The lesson of the lighthouse is that the light does not need to reveal the whole ocean it only needs to show us where to steer now.
How to Apply This Today
Identify Your "What If": Write down the one situation causing you the most fog today.
The "Even If" Prayer: Convert your "What If" into an "Even If." Instead of saying, "What if I lose my job?", pray, "Even if the road gets difficult, I trust that You are my Provider."
Take the Next Right Step: Do not try to solve next month’s problems today. Ask God for the strength to handle just the next hour. Focus on being faithful with the light you currently have.
Personal Reflections
Source of Peace: Are you looking for peace in your circumstances or in the presence of the Lightkeeper?
Surrendering Control: What is one area of your life where you need to stop "squinting" and start trusting?
Current Light: What is the one small, faithful step God is asking you to take right now?
