GO FORWARD — PART 2

THE WILDERNESS SEASON

A 7‑Day Bible Study Series by Lightkeepers Global Community

Anchor Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:2 (KJV) — “And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness…”

INTRODUCTION

After Israel crossed the Red Sea, they entered the wilderness a place of testing, transition, and transformation. The wilderness is not punishment; it is preparation. It is the classroom of God, where He shapes character, strengthens faith, and prepares His people for the promise ahead.

Every believer will experience wilderness seasons:

  • Seasons of waiting

  • Seasons of uncertainty

  • Seasons of stretching

  • Seasons of silence

  • Seasons of transition

This study explores how to move forward even when you feel stuck, unseen, or unsure in the wilderness.

THE PURPOSE OF THE WILDERNESS

A. The Wilderness Builds Your Faith

God used the wilderness to teach Israel dependence.

Deuteronomy 8:3 - God fed them with manna to reveal that He alone sustains.

Faith is not built in comfort; it is built in challenge. The wilderness teaches you to trust God when nothing makes sense.

B. The Wilderness Breaks Old Patterns

Israel left Egypt physically, but Egypt was still in their hearts. The wilderness detoxes your soul from:

  • Old habits

  • Old fears

  • Old mindsets

  • Old identities

God cannot take you into the promised land with an Egyptian mentality.

C. The Wilderness Prepares You for the Promise

Before God gives you the promise, He prepares you for it.

The wilderness shapes:

  • Character

  • Discipline

  • Obedience

  • Humility

  • Strength

Preparation always precedes possession.

D. The Wilderness Reveals What Is Inside You

The wilderness exposes:

  • Fear

  • Doubt

  • Pride

  • Impatience

  • Hidden weaknesses

Not to shame you - but to heal you.

God reveals what is in you so He can remove what is hindering you.

WHAT IT MEANS TO GO FORWARD IN THE WILDERNESS

A. Keep Moving Even When You Don’t Feel God

God was silent at times - but He was still leading.

Your feelings are not your guide; God is.

Forward movement in the wilderness requires trust, not emotion.

B. Trust God’s Daily Provision

Manna came daily - not weekly. God provides step by step, not all at once.

Forward movement requires trusting God for today’s bread.

C. Follow God’s Timing

Israel moved when the cloud moved. They stopped when the cloud stopped.

Forward movement requires sensitivity to God’s timing, not impatience.

D. Refuse to Complain

Complaining delays progress. Gratitude accelerates it.

Israel’s complaints extended their wilderness journey. Your words shape your wilderness experience.

E. Stay Connected to Community

No one survives the wilderness alone.

God designed Israel to journey together - not individually.

Forward movement requires support, accountability, and fellowship.

HOW TO GO FORWARD IN THE WILDERNESS

A. Stay Rooted in the Word

The Word becomes your compass when the path is unclear.

Scripture stabilizes your emotions and strengthens your faith.

B. Stay Consistent in Prayer

Prayer keeps your heart aligned with God’s will.

In the wilderness, prayer is not optional - it is essential.

C. Stay Obedient

Obedience shortens wilderness seasons.

Delayed obedience often leads to extended wandering.

D. Stay Expectant

Expectation keeps hope alive.

Expect God to:

  • Provide

  • Guide

  • Strengthen

  • Speak

  • Deliver

Expectation fuels perseverance.
