“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
Romans 8:18
Part 1 shows us that God stays, Part 2 shows us why He stays and what He is doing while you walk through the fire.
What Suffering Is Actually Producing
Paul wrote some of his most joyful, hope‑filled letters from prison cells.
He was not there because he lacked faith.
He was there because he followed God faithfully.
“I have learned to be content in whatever state I am.”
Philippians 4:11-13.
Contentment is learned.
And the classroom is suffering endured with God.
James says, “Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials.”
James 1:2-4.
Why
Because trials produce perseverance.
Perseverance produces maturity.
And maturity produces a life that lacks nothing.
Suffering is not random.
It is forming something in you that comfort never could.
Nothing Can Separate You
Romans 8 builds to a declaration that silences fear:
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ”
Romans 8 verse 35.
Paul lists every category of fear:
Trouble. Hardship. Persecution. Danger. Death. Demons. The future.
And then he says, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors.”
Romans 8:37.
Not after these things.
In them.
The love of God does not remove every storm.
It carries you through every storm.
What to Do When You Are in the Middle of It
1. Be honest with God
The Psalms are full of raw prayers.
“How long, O Lord”
“Why have You forsaken me”
God is not threatened by your honesty.
He meets you in it.
“Pour out your hearts to him.”
Psalm 62:8.
2. Remember what God has done
Suffering makes us forget.
So Scripture commands us to remember.
Write down the times God has carried you.
Your history with Him is your anchor.
3. Stay connected to people
Elijah collapsed emotionally after his greatest victory.
He felt alone.
God reminded him he was not.
“Encourage one another.”
Hebrews 10: 24-25.
Isolation magnifies pain.
Community helps carry it.
4. Hold on to resurrection hope
God does not leave things dead.
He specialises in bringing life out of endings.
The resurrection is God’s loudest declaration that no story is beyond His reach.
How to Apply This Today
Let suffering deepen your dependence on God, not your despair.
He is forming strength in you.Choose honesty over silence.
Tell God exactly how you feel.Stay rooted in Scripture and community.
They stabilise you when emotions cannot.Expect God to redeem what feels ruined.
He has never wasted a season.
A Final Word
If life is stable right now, take this as preparation.
If life is breaking right now, take this as oxygen.
God has not moved.
He has not changed His mind about you.
He is not waiting for things to improve before He shows up.
His name is I AM.
Present. Here. Now.
“I AM has sent me to you.”
Exodus 3:14.
He is with you today.
Hold on.
When you are standing in the middle of a season that feels too heavy to carry, remember this: God is not shaping you from a distance. He is shaping you from within the very place that hurts. Suffering is not wasted in His hands. It becomes the soil where perseverance grows, where maturity forms and where faith becomes unshakeable. The God who stayed with Joseph in the pit, with David in the cave and with Paul in the prison is the same God who stands with you today. Your story is not finished, your strength is not gone and your future is not lost. The God who brings resurrection out of endings is still writing your next chapter.
